It’s great to be able to memorize God’s Word and meditate on it. Below, I’ve listed some popular Bible verses for nature lovers, outdoorsmen and sportsmen (okay-the outdoor ladies too). Carry these verses with you next time you visit the wild places or your back patio. Enjoy, and by all means, add your favorite outdoor verse in the comments field.
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26
3 Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me. Genesis 27:3
7 “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; 8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. 9 Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? Job 12:7-9
3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Psalm 8:3-4
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. 3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. 4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. Psalm 19:1-4
1 As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:1-2
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. Proverbs 6:6-8
27 The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt. Proverbs 12:27
17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17
31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” Matthew 4:18-19
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:26,27
46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. Mark 6:46
9 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” John 21:9-11
20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1:20
3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Hebrews 11:3
Great passages, Scott. I love the imagery found in these verses. Here’s another:
Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.
Let the rivers clap their hands,
let the mountains sing together for joy;
– Psalm 98:7-8
Some great scriptures, Chris. Seems like David spends a lot of time talking about God and nature. Maybe it goes back to his shepherding years when he spent a lot of time outdoors.
These are some of my favorite verses. One more that God brings to mind when I’m out in the hills is, “Be still and know that I am God.” It does not talk about nature, but that is one thing nature speaks to us.
Thanks for the comments countrycowgirl. Great verse–nature does have a way of making us be still and realize the presence of God. thanks for stopping by!
Scott, the verses you selected are beaufiful. They are some of my favorites. Another one is in Genesis 10:14-16. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the clouds. And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh: and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shalll be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
Thanks Mim … that verse is a great reminder of God’s promise and love. Thanks for sharing.
It is awesome to know that there are still Godly people out there who see God in nature. You meet so many people these days who just see nature as a thing to live off of or fight over when God meant it to be something to be enjoyed and to feel close to Him in. Thanks for the verses!!
thanks for the comments Melody and thanks for stopping by!
I needed this too, Scott.
I’m glad you found these verses helpful. As an outdoorsman, they inspire me every day.

Great Page! I’m glad I stumbled upon it!!
When I came across these verses, I was looking for curriculum for an outdoor bible study I am creating for teens in my area. As I found this page and started reading these verses I just thought about how God is always at work around us and through us.
This blog is great by the way! I love spending time with the Lord through His creation. It brings me peace in times of chaos.
Mason. Feel free to use any materials here. I am also working on some Bible study materials. Would love to see some of your work.

Thank you Scott… I ‘pressed’ this and it is on my Hold the Faith blog. I think it very appropriate. I also tweeted it
Thank you so much! I very much enjoyed reading your blog! You’ve obviously put a lot of thought and prayer into it.
With the Hold the Faith blog, I put in things that undergird my novel Hold the Faith (available on Amazon and Kindle as ebooks.) So, yes. A lot of prayer and thought. My other blog, which ended up with the wrong name is running a series on Moses. http://religioushistoricalfiction.wordpress.com/
That is awesome! Congratulations on your novel. I will check it out. I’ve been writing some Christian fiction and some other resources for Christian teachers/leaders.
Hi Scott… there are many difficult things about writing a novel. One at the top of the list is avoiding distractions… which I am not good at doing Thank you for your encouragement 🙂
Wonderful! This is awesome. I live in the city in an apartment so not much “outdoor” opportuity except for the nearby park. Nevertheless, it is the silence and being away from it all that allows us to hear God.
Great post.
Thanks so much! Yes, whether we live in the city or country, the outdoors is something we can all enjoy and observe and see the Hand of God.
I got another verse for ya proverbs 21 19 it is better to dwell in the wilderness than with an angry woman
Another good reason to head to the woods 🙂
