Institute in Basic Life Principles – Character Sketches

“But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:  Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.”         Job 12:7-8

Perhaps some of you have heard of Bill Gothard and the Institute in Basic Life Principles.  As a young adult, I attended his seminars when he came to Atlanta, Georgia.  I hold fond memories of those huge gatherings and hearing thousands of people sing Amazing Grace—that sweet unified sound!  I learned so much about God, His wisdom and the importance of meditating on God’s word.

At one seminar, I discovered a wonderful resource called Character Sketches.  This 3 volume set of books explores different animals, their traits and their various physical features.  At the same time, each chapter examines characters from the Bible and lessons learned from their successes or failures.  These stories are great for reading to your kids or for your own enjoyment and edification.  I recently tracked down the IBLP website and purchased all 3 volumes.

If you would like to read about orderliness and the life of the beaver, click here, and you can download a free pdf excerpt from volume one.  I hope you enjoy, and please tell me what you think about the story of the beaver.

    Scott,
thanks for sharing this. I never heard of this series and after being introduced to it by you, like it. It’s amazing how everything is there before us if we would or could only see it.
